ARCOLA EAST COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
The Arcola East Community Association is a volunteer committee that focuses on providing recreational opportunities to the residents of the Arcola East Area. This area is comprised of all residents South of Victoria Ave and East of Ring Road to the City Limits.
On occasion, sub-committees are formed to address issues with regards to this area. The A.E.C.A. has recently appointed a sub-committee to address the lack of Youth recreational opportunities currently being provided. This committee will be referred to as Youth Strategy.
ARCOLA EAST COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
YOUTH STRATEGY
The goal of the Youth Strategy is to assess the needs of our Youth and to develop programs and/or facilities to address those needs. This will be handled in Phases.
PHASE 1 is to assess Youth Needs.
With the support of the City of Regina, the Catholic School Board and the Public School Board, the Youth Strategy Committee dispersed teams of two into the Grade 8 classrooms to discuss Youth needs and wants for this area. Eight elementary schools were invited to share in this process. Six of these schools were able to allot us the half hour time slots (per class) necessary. 290 students took part. These sessions consisted of a 20 minute discussion and a five minute written questionnaire.
The following questions were the basis for the discussions:
The responses were exciting, interesting and very informative. The sessions were lively and the kids were thrilled to have been asked their opinions.
Each student was also given a note to take home to let their families know what these sessions were about. The note also indicated our website, for more information. Comments and ideas could also be left via the website.
The following pages are the results of these school sessions.
Overall % of 290* students when asked, "How do you enjoy spending your spare time"?
